Contest Night at Bolton Banter

Mon, Feb 23rd, 2009

Hello Everyone - On Thursday, February 19th, Bolton Banter Toastmasters held its third annual International Speech and Evaluation contest.  Thank you to all who helped make this a great night.  It does take a village!  Val Koncan chaired and Eva Britton was Chief Judge.

Contestants: Eric Solowka, Lorraine Van Wagner, Jillian Lucas, Brendan Dineen, Sheelagh Rennie

There were three contestants entered in the International Speech Contest.  Eric Solowka, in "My World", asked whether dandy new inventions like i pods and diet dog food will really make the world a better place.  You may notice a lot of clay in your gardens in Bolton and in her speech, "Properties of Clay" Sheelagh Rennie reminded us of the usefulness of this substance.  Brendan Dineen reminded us in "Procrastination" that putting things off just leads to stress so it's better to "just do it".

The target speaker (his identity was top secret until the last moment) for the evaluation portion of the contest was David Pataki of the Talk of Alliston Toastmasters.  In his speech, "Reflection of a Grandmother", David shared fond memories of a kind and doting granny.

Eric Solowka, Jillian Lucas and Lorraine Van Wagner were the contestants in this portion of the contest and all three delivered evaluations of David's speech.

Congratulations to Eric Solowka who placed first in the speech contest.  Brendan Dineen placed second.  Eric Solowka also placed first in the evaluation contest.  Lorraine Van Wagner placed second.

The first and second place contestants will now move on to the area contest at the Orangeville Toastmasters Club on March 9th.  Good luck to everyone.

Our next regular meeting will be held on March 5th.  See you all there!

Cheers - Lorraine Van Wagner, Webmaster
