We have 3 Distinguished Toastmasters

Fri, Jul 25th, 2008

Hello Fellow Banteroos - At our July 17th meeting, President Brendan Dineen announced the theme of the year, which is "Let's Have a Cow".  This is not a plug for the Simpsons as c o w stands for continuing to achieve, offering to help and share and working together.  Clever and devilishly simple.  It is a great theme to guide us during our new Toastmasters year.

During this meeting, Jane Collier formally inducted and welcomed new members Laurie Stapleton, Pat Burness and Corina Simu.   Eric Solowka presented the outgoing and incoming executive.  In her toast, Minnie Grewal graciously acknowledged the contributions of the outdoing executive members.  Laurie Stapleton as humourist of the evening offered a story called "Men in Heaven".   Don't roll your eyes ladies as apparently there is at least one.

The theme of this meeting was "Awards Night" and the word, "Congratulations".  Congratulations were certainly in order for Eric Solowka, Carol Dowell and Anne Toner Fung.  All three have earned the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster.  Eric and Carol were on hand to accept their DTM badges, presented by Brendan.  Anne joined us by phone link from Antigonish, N.S.  We are all inspired by the achievements of these three tireless members of Bolton Banter and we are delighted, as such a young club, to have three DTMs.

The annual awards, Toastmaster of the Year, Skinny Branches and Extra Mile will be presented in August.

There was only one ribbon presented this evening; best Table Topics Speaker.  Eric won that ribbon with a story about, of all things, a goat.

On July 31st, our newly minted DTM and Past President  Eric will present a workshop entitled "The Laughter Equation".  As you might imagine, it is about humour and very timely given that the Humorous Speech contest is set for September 18th.  Come out and get some tips to help you get that award winning humorous speech started.

Hope you are all enjoying the summer.  It will stop raining some day.
