It's Christmas
Hello Everyone - The Bolton Banters decided to make the final meeting of 2009 a festive occasion. Minnie Grewal kindly offered to host a combination meeting/party at her charming country home. Minnie not only hosted but she chaired as well choosing, very appropriately, "Christmas" and "Celebrate" as theme and word of the meeting respectively. As this was a special meeting, there were speeches only and each speaker received a silent evaluation.
First speaker up was Brendan Dineen who spoke about the challenges of Christmas shopping and trying to decide what to buy for people when you don't know yourself what you want. Brendan accepts that what he really wants, namely; a trip around the world or a Lamborghini, will never appear under his Christmas tree so he'll settle for his favourite gift; anything from the LCBO.
Bill Everitt, a Towns of York Toastmaster now residing in Miami, reprised the speech he presented, via Skype, at Eric Solowka's roast in November. Bill described Eric as a scientist and a humanist. Apparently he also does a mean Mark Twain imitation.
Bill teamed up with Carol Dowell to present a project from the "Communicating on TV" manual. Carol played the part of an interviewer questioning Bill about his seafaring exploits. To think Bill used to be a farrier! The scene was set such that you thought you were watching an actual piece on the 6 o'clock news.
Lorraine Van Wagner, directionally challenged, presented a project entitled "The Demonstration Talk" from the "Speaking to Inform" manual. She described to the group how the GPS can get you where you want to go in a rather painless fashion. She brought along her own GPS to demonstrate her points.
Following the speeches, everyone gathered in and around Minnie's kitchen to sample the goodies laid out on the table. Everybody pitched in and contributed a dish and everything was delicious.
Thanks to Minnie for playing host and to everyone present for making this meeting memorable. See you all on January 7, 2010.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
Lorraine Van Wagner - Webmaster
