It was a warm night.

Our June 5th meeting was chaired by Terence Canastraro who chose as the theme and word of the evening "Environment" and "Humidity" respectively.  Those two words are on everyone's mind these days as we head toward steamy weather. We welcomed a guest, Corina.

 

A newly minted Toastmaster, Laurie Stapleton, very ably took on the role of Table Topics Master.  She invited us to choose between two topics, "Environment" or "Black and White".  As you might imagine, those topics produced some interesting little speeches.  Brendan took the ribbon for best Table Topics.

 

We heard three speeches.  Eric Solowka, speaking from an advanced manual, entitled "Public Relations", completed the requirements for the ACB designation with his speech  "Rights and Responsibilities".  Eric's speech was unique as it required not only an oral presentation but a question and answer session afterwards.   Linda Murphy spoke about an immigrant's experience in "Canada Day" and now has only one more speech to give before she receives her Competent Communicator badge.  Lorraine Van Wagner, speaking from an advanced manual, "Storytelling", told the story of the "Angel Dog".  Lorraine has one more speech to deliver in order to receive the ACB badge.  Lorraine won the ribbon for best speaker and Brendan was voted best evaluator. 

 

In her closing remarks, General Evaluator Sheelagh Rennie, thanked those who stepped into roles on short notice, or as Eric Solowka would say, ventured onto the skinny branches. Well done everyone and we'll see you at our next meeting on June 19.
