Desserts

Wed, Dec 9th, 2009

Hello Everyone - Our December 3rd meeting, with Carol Dowell at the helm, featured "Christmas Preparation" and "Stress" as theme and word of the meeting respectively.  There was little stress at this meeting as we happily welcomed many guests to join our members.  In his toast, Vince Capicotto noted that "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts".  Thanks for pointing out that interesting fact Vince.

Dan O'Reilly was the evening's table topics master.  He passed around pictures of everyday items, such as a bunch of tires, and asked that the speakers relate the item in the picture they chose to the theme and word of the meeting.  Catherine Keyes and Brendan Dineen tied as winners in this category.

In this evening's education portion, Bondy Nair described his responsibilities as the Vice President of Membership.  Catherine Keyes, the club secretary speaking on behalf of VP Education Laurie Stapleton, reminded newer members not to hesitate to approach any club member for help when necessary.  The review of executive roles will continue in upcoming meetings for the benefit of all members.

There were three speeches this evening.  Hendrik Magilsen, presenting his second speech, spoke about time as a precious resource.  It is your only possession and you have it only in limited amounts.  That explains why we all get so frustrated when telemarketers call at supper time.

Ben Allison, in his fourth speech, gave us all something to think about when he compared "something simple", namely marriage, to an open mortgage.  He certainly gave us a new perspective on the subject.

Lorraine Van Wagner, speaking from an advanced manual, described the implications of the upcoming harmonized sales tax.  Just what everybody needs - new taxes!

As part of the closing activities, Bondy Nair, VP Membership, formally inducted Hendrik Magilsen and Alan Keyes into the club.  Club President Carol Dowell presented Hendrik with his ice breaker pin and Bondy with his CL pin.   Congratulations!

Val Koncan and Eric Solowka tied for best evaluator and Lorraine Van Wagner was awarded the ribbon for the speaker who best met her speech objectives.

A special thank you to the guests who graced this meeting.  We hope to see you all again soon.  Thanks to Andrea Petch of Lakeview Toastmasters who offered the parting incite.

Our next meeting will be a combined meeting and Christmas event at the home of Minnie Grewal.  Look forward to seeing you all there.  Cheers and regards-
