Elections!

Thu, May 8th, 2008
Hello Bolton Banter Members - Our meeting May 1 was especially productive.  We elected a new executive and heard three outstanding speeches.  Our chair, Brendan Dineen, chose "have your cake and eat it too" as the theme of the meeting.  He went one step further and bought a yummy Black Forest cake to mark our club's second anniversary.  Thanks Brendan!

We were delighted to welcome two guests, Jacquie and Antonio.  We also welcomed Area 62 Governor Anne Irwin.  Carol Dowell, Marketing Ambassador for Division N joined us and announced that she plans to become a member of Bolton Banter.  Welcome Carol!  We would also like to acknowledge Bolton Banter member Eva Britton who is Area 67 Governor (Division P) and Division P Governor Elect.

Brendan presided over Table Topics.  Our mission was to show how opposites can work or to argue that they cannot.  As is customary with Table Topics, we heard some rather imaginative little speeches.  Julie Horowick and Jane Collier, who spoke of circles/squares and introverts/extroverts respectively, were co-winners in this category.

Lorraine Van Wagner presented an educator, "Resolving Conflict" from the Leadership Excellence series.  Toastmaster Usha Choudhary introduced the speeches.  Julie Horowick's speech entitled "My First 4H Experience", gave us non-rural types some good information about 4H clubs.  Julie also gave a remarkable demonstration of what happens when you don't pay attention while snowshoeing.   Carol Dowell used her experiences as District 60 Fall Conference Chair as the basis for a speech.  I'm sure that listening to Carol's speech gave all of us a renewed apprecation for those people who toil quietly behind the scenes to ensure the success of events such as Toastmasters conferences.  Our Immediate Past President and Northern Division Governor Eric Solowka offered a touching tribute to "Tatyana" in a speech that vividly described the horror and futility of war.  Eric was awarded the ribbon for his speech and Sheelagh Rennie took the ribbon for best evaluator.

It is our pleasure to announce the candidates who were elected to serve on the Executive Committee for the 2008/2009 term.  The candidates assume their roles on July 1, 2008.
