Revivify - April 17

Fri, Apr 25th, 2008
Hello Bolton Banter Members - "Revivify" was chosen by chair Linda Murphy as the word of the meeting on April 17th.  It means to restore or to breathe new life into.  The word does  not roll off the tongue easily but it is appropriate as we watch Mother Nature breathe new life into our winter weary lawns and shrubs.

We were delighted to be joined by guests Tom, Caroline, Michelle and Laurie.  The next time Laurie attends, it will be as a member.  Welcome Laurie.  We look forward to hearing your ice breaker speech.  We were also pleased to see our immediate past president, Eric Solowka.  Eric is Northern Division Governor and consequently a very busy man.  He announced that District 60 is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.  At the recent District 60 spring conference in Richmond Hill, this very large (330 clubs) district was divided in two.  Bolton Banter will be in District 86, mid north division, area 15.

Catherine Keyes was to have been Table Topics Master.  She could not attend but did send Jane Collier her idea.  She had us going to heaven (some members doubted they would gain admittance) and speaking to a famous person.  Eric took the ribbon with his imaginary conversation at the "Billy Gates" instead of the pearly gates.

We had the pleasure of hearing four speakers.  Andrew Hunt, our resident musical mind, told us about the benefits of learning to play a musical instrument and made many wish they'd persevered with their childhood music lessons.  Terence Canastraro, in his speech "MLS listings" spoke of the challenges in finding the right house in the right place at the right price.  Lorraine Van Wagner offered a fable in story form called "Envy No One".  Eric Solowka's presentation, "Better horsemanship through better humanship" would appeal to all animal lovers, especially horse lovers.  Eric is working from the High Performance Leadership Manual and is on his way to completing the requirements for the Distinguished Toastmaster designation.

Newly minted toastmasters, Laurie Stapleton and Kirk Castator, ably assumed the roles of Grammarian and Time Keeper respectively.  Many thanks to Catherine who had been scheduled to be Quotemaster as well as Table Topics Master.  She was unable to attend but sent along both her Table Topics idea as well as a quote.

The members awarded Lorraine Van Wagner the ribbon for best speaker.  Sheelagh Rennie and Linda Murphy tied for best evaluator.

The next meeting is set for May 1.  The executive is working on plans for our upcoming second anniversary and open house set for May 29.  We'll keep you posted.  We would like this evening to be a very special event for all.
