A Nippy Meeting in Spring

Mon, May 26th, 2008
Hello Bolton Banters - Jillian Lucas chaired our May 15th meeting and chose "spring" and "nippy" as the theme and word of the meeting respectively.  Good choices Jillian.
It may be spring but some nights sure are nippy!

We were happy to welcome back guest Jacquie Smith who became a member before the end of the meeting.  Jacquie, we look forward to hearing your ice breaker.  We formally inducted Kirk Castator as a member.  Carol Dowell has re-joined Bolton Banter and we are very happy to have her back.

Usha Choudhary was Table Topics Master.  The topics being selected just get more and more interesting.  Usha asked us to weave a short story out of one line.  Carol Dowell won the ribbon for her story of what seemed like a heist but was in fact a movie shooting.  We then heard strong speeches from Carol and Jane Collier.  Carol, in her presentation, reminded us that effective July 1st, 2008, District 60 is splitting.  Bolton Banter will now be in District 86, Division M, Area 15.  There will be a test on this later.

Jacquie Smith, newly minted toastmaster, assumed the role of quizmaster.  Good for you Jacquie.

We spent some time in preparations for the May 29th open house.  This special event will feature a regular toastmasters meeting and we ensured that all roles will be filled.  Kirk Castator will do his icebreaker and so there will be three speeches in total.   We are hoping our open house will be a very special event and will give Bolton an idea of how toastmasters can help people from all walks of life communicate more effectively.  Bring along family/friends as all are welcome.

As our agenda notes, following the meeting members may congregate at a local pub for comestibles and libations - food and drink in plain English.  All in attendance were invited to support toastmaster Andrew Hunt who that evening had a gig at Toby Jug.  No doubt he provided fine entertainment as we are all aware of Andrew's passion for music.

We are all looking forward to the open house on May 29th and we hope to see all members of Bolton Banter there.  Our next meeting following the open house will be held on Thursday, June 5th.
